Tallahassee Treks

The Official Blog of Storied Paths

Welcome to Tallahassee Treks

Welcome to Tallahassee Treks, the official blog of Storied Paths, where I explore the history, people, and sites of Tallahassee and the surrounding regions.

Whether you’re Tallahassee born and bred, recently moved to the Capital City, or are planning your first visit, this blog is your invitation to slow down, choose a path, and discover the spaces and stories that make Tallahassee unique and worth exploring.

I started Storied Paths, LLC to share my love of Tallahassee with others through walking tours. I believe that walking tours are one of the best ways to experience a location.  When you let yourself be immersed in a space, you understand its story better.  Walking tours aren’t just about reaching a destination, they’re about taking the time to notice details, ask questions, and make true connections with the people and places that shape the spaces we see.  That’s why I always search out a walking tour (or many) whenever I travel.  I believe in what I do.

I’ve come to realize though that I can’t possibly share ALL of the fun, fascinating, and sometimes strange stories about Tallahassee only through my walking tours. Tallahassee simply has so many beautiful spaces, creative features, and historical tidbits of interest that deserve to be hightlighted.  Plus, part of what makes Tallahassee so special is its proximity to the Gulf Coast, south Georgia, and other towns and cities that make up our regional culture.  We are, afterall, part of the Florida Panhandle, the Big Bend, North Florida, and the Red Hills regions.  Tallahassee and its appeal does not exist in a geographical vacuum. Thus, I want this blog to serve as a way for me to share a fuller story of Tallahassee and its surroundings.

I also realize that not everyone is able to enjoy a walking tour.  I’m hoping this blog will make some Tallahassee spaces and stories more accessible to those folks.

Tallahassee and its regions have many stories to tell. My goal is to post here once a week, and when you visit, you’ll find a variety of tales and information about

  • Tallahassee and area history and culture
  • Local people and spaces
  • Historic neighborhoods, buildings, and landmarks
  • Regional nature, trails, and ecology
  • Local art, architecture, and its preservation
  • Seasonal events and experiences from around the Tallahassee area
  • Highlights from my walking tours
  • Behind-the-scenes stories

As I explore, I’ll also share the personal moments and reflections that help make the stories worth telling.

Thank you for joining me at the beginning of this journey.  I hope you’ll stop by often, share these stories with friends and family, and, most importantly, come walk with me.  After all, every path, even the familiar ones, reveals a new story, and every story helps us understand our community and ourselves a little bit better.

Until Our Paths Cross Again,

Stephanie
